Cardinal Health Headquarters PhIIA
Dublin, Ohio
This 250,000 sq. ft. facility is a product of the Master Site & Facility Plan for Cardinal’s main campus completed by Bird Houk Collaborative in 2003.
It is designed to complement the architectural style of the other campus buildings - with modifications to scale and detailing to achieve the more ‘intimate’ feel desired by the client. With the goal of achieving a Certified rating under LEED standards for New Construction (set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council), the facility incorporates sustainable practices/materials intended to reduce pollution, water and energy consumption.
BHC designed this new facility from the ‘inside out’ so that the overall programming would achieve the usability, flexibility, and efficiency desired by Cardinal Health. Employee safety and security was incorporated throughout the design, as was the need for expansion and corporate change. In order to encourage employee wellness and a culture of collaboration and teaming, the facility incorporates numerous informal meeting areas, indoor/outdoor dining spaces, as well as lifestyle and convenience options. These program items, aimed at meeting the needs of busy employees, include a full-service cafeteria, coffee shop, private walking paths, and a fitness facility with locker rooms and showers. A dining terrace, adjacent to the rear pond complete with fountains and a lawn area, can be used for larger gatherings.
