Hilliard Main Street Restoration
Hilliard, Ohio
In 2006, the Hilliard City Council decided to reinvest in its main corridor, which had weathered over time due to road salts and truck traffic. Bird Houk Collaborative was asked to develop a streetscape restoration plan to revitalize this historic core. Working with traffic engineers and civil engineers, the landscape architects and urban designers at BHC developed a plan that included new brick pavers, street lights, tree planters and street trees. Recognizing that definition was needed to distinguish the historic core along this major street, the design of three major arched gateways was recommended to announce the arrival into the downtown.
The Main Street Restoration project is Phase I of a multi-phased downtown revitalization effort to create connectivity, destinations, and economic sustainability within the commercial core of Hilliard (the completion of two urban parks and a perpendicular realignment will follow).
